Fabric Care Tips You've made the investment in the beauty and durability of Texas natural fibers. With these fabric care hints and tips, you'll learn how to make your investment a long-lasting one! Always be sure to consult the manufacturer's label for additional instructions! Cotton- For basic stain removal, quickly apply seltzer, water or an ice cube to the affected area.
- Cotton clothing can take the heat. Use the highest setting on an iron, and add spray starch to make garments virtually wrinkle free.
- Cotton is absorbent and requires longer dry time, so use a higher heat setting for the dryer. All cotton clothing should be left in the dryer just long enough to remove wrinkles and moisture. If left in too long, the heat can actually set wrinkles, increase static cling and cause shrinkage.
Leather- Never store leather goods in plastic or other non-breathable covers. This will cause leather to become dry.
- Always hang leather garments on wide or padded hangers to maintain their shape. Use shoetrees in footwear and stuff empty handbags with tissue to help retain their shape.
- Allow wet or damp leather to air-dry naturally away from any heat source. Leather can be treated with a conditioner to restore flexibility while suede can be brushed with a terry towel to restore its look.
- Avoid spraying perfumes or hair sprays while wearing your garment and do not apply pins, adhesive badges or tape. Wearing a scarf at the neckline will help keep hair and body oil away from the collar.
Mohair- To reduce shedding, place in dryer on the Air Fluff setting only and tumble for 10 to 15 minutes. Be sure to clean out the lint container before and after the process.
- Do not spray perfume directly on garment, especially if it white.
- Try to avoid friction spots, such as a shoulder bag or armrests. This may wear down the surface texture.
- Do not keep knitted mohair garments on hangers. Instead, fold and store on a shelf.
Wool- Brush wool clothing to remove soil. Use a damp sponge for knits and finer fabrics.
- Refresh wool garments quickly after wearing or unpacking by hanging them in a steamy bathroom. Moisture from the steam will remove wrinkles.
- If wool gets wet, dry the garment at room temperature away from heat. If there is a nap brush the nap.
- Give wool clothing a twenty-four hour rest period between wearings. Wool fibers will shed wrinkles and return to their original shape.
